The CIAO! Initiative, as referred to in the mission statement, is executed by a network of universities, research institutes, and companies, called the CIAO! Network. The activities of the CIAO! Network are performing research, acquiring research funds, disseminating scientific results, and developing practically useful methods, techniques, and tools. The ambition of the CIAO! Network is to become an influential knowledge center for the focus issues of cooperation and interoperability, as well as for the key concepts of architecture and ontology.
The network is founded in 2004 by Prof. Dr. Jan Dietz and Dr. Antonia Albani (Delft University of Technology). The current members are (in alphabetical order):

At every member university a CIAO! Doctoral Consortium is set up. It consists of the local CIAO! doctoral students (PhD students) and the local CIAO! research staff. The objective of the CIAO! Doctoral Consortium is 1) to encourage the doctoral students to write, submit, and present high quality papers, and 2) to be a platform for meeting of the students and the staff members.
